Sandro Tonali voices support for under-pressure Newcastle boss Eddie Howe

The Magpies head into the third international break of the season sitting 14th in the table following Sunday's defeat at Brentford.

It marks a stark contrast to last season, when Newcastle finished in the Champions League places and were widely praised for their attacking style and defensive solidity.

This campaign, however, has been defined by inconsistency and frustration. Injuries and a congested fixture list have contributed to their struggles, but Tonali believes the squad retains full belief in Howe's methods.

Despite recent setbacks, Howe continues to have the backing of the club's Saudi Arabian owners, PIF, who are understood to value the progress made under his leadership since his arrival in 2021.

"I think he is 10 out of 10 because he really likes me on and off the pitch," said Tonali.

"He helped me in my first year a lot and mentally, because mentally we work a lot on the pitch together every week, every day.

"I think he is a very good gaffer, a great gaffer. On the pitch every day for our group, every player works together even if you start the game, are on the bench or at home.

"I think this is good because every player is happy here, and the reason probably ends up with him."
