Mabasa has been a consistent performer for Orlando Pirates this season with four goals from nine appearances in all competitions.
He was named in the preliminary squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin in March but did not make the final selection, last turning out for the national team in 2021.
South Africa are next in action at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in December, before their 2026 World Cup final appearance.
Mabasa told iDiski Times: "It is very painful because I generally make the preliminary squads. But I am just unfortunate never to make the cut for the final one.
"I still believe my chance will come, though. I am inspired by the example of Sipho Mbule, who has made it back into the squad."
Mabasa added that he "dreams" of playing at the World Cup, that kicks off in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.
"It is definitely a dream," he said. "I grew up watching the tournament, and I have a memory of watching Benni McCarthy doing his thing, and it made me want to be a part of that one day.
"I am hopeful, and I know it will happen if I keep on doing my work at the club."
