'Every brand needs a refresher from time to time,' says Sandile Zungu as AmaZulu unveil new logo

Usuthu owner Sandile Zungu revealed the new design during a glittering event held at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday.

Zungu has been in control of the club for five years, with their highest league finish coming in 2021 under former head coach Benni McCarthy when they ended in second place behind league winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

This term they are in fifth place with 18 points from their opening 10 fixtures, having most recently beaten Chippa United 3-0.

Reflecting on his time at the club and his ambitions for the future, Zungu explained on IOL: "Every brand needs a refresher from time to time.

"If you look at the logos of household brands either in the consumer or telecommunications space, you will see that over time they have changed — whether it's fonts or colours — and it's often informed by market research.

"The last five years have been truly exciting for me. I was really pleasantly surprised by the management of the league, so the chairman deserves huge compliments for leading this product through the most difficult times.

"On the negative side, I did not know how painful it is to be on the losing side or to drop points because of bad officiating.

"If fans are so passionate and sometimes hurt players when they are cheated, you can imagine how much anger we experience as club bosses without consequences for the culprits. Some owners just decide to leave the game entirely.

"The PSL has been nothing short of surprises for me. But through it all, the love for this club and this league has only grown stronger."
