Benson Mhlongo lauds Orlando Pirates' stability, urges Kaizer Chiefs to build consistency

He believes these qualities are lacking at Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

Both clubs made notable signings ahead of the current campaign, but Mhlongo believes Pirates' new arrivals have adapted more effectively, helping the side maintain high performance levels both domestically and in continental competitions.

"Since the tragic bus accident, Pirates have shown remarkable resilience," Mhlongo told KickOff.

"It's great to see every player performing at their best. The team must continue this consistency in Africa and in the Betway Premiership."

Mhlongo praised Sipho Mbule for his leadership and influence since joining the Buccaneers, saying the midfielder's presence has inspired younger players.

"The inclusion of Sipho Mbule has boosted the confidence of the technically gifted players. He leads by example and encourages the younger talents," he added.

Mbule, alongside Evidence Makgopa, is among several Pirates players called up for Bafana Bafana, while Chiefs only have one representative in Hugo Broos' latest squad - a reflection, Mhlongo suggests, of the contrasting form between the two Soweto giants.

"Up front, Makgopa is hungry to deliver, and Tshegofatso Mabasa wants to prove himself. When players within a team compete against each other, it pushes everyone to improve," Mhlongo said. "That's why Pirates are matching Mamelodi Sundowns in terms of performance."

In contrast, Mhlongo believes Chiefs' main challenge lies in their lack of stability and constant changes to the starting lineup and technical team.

"Chiefs need to settle on a consistent team for at least two seasons and give a coach the time to build something. That's what Pirates did with José Riveiro - they gave him trust and time, and now they're reaping the rewards."

However, Amakhosi are on a rebuilding phase once again following the confirmation of the departure of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, with his assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef set to take charge of the squad for the rest of the season.
