Terrence Mashego thankful for a new lease of life under Gavin Hunt at Durban City

The 29-year-old struggled for game time over the past few seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns amid intense competition and a few injury lay-offs, after signing from Cape Town City in 2022.

He made just 13 appearances in all competitions last season and has already featured in six games under Hunt this term, including four Betway Premiership matches and two Carling Knockout fixtures.

City are next in action away to Kaizer Chiefs in the league on Friday.

Mashego said in the Citizen: "To be honest, I am enjoying my time here. I am enjoying the coast. I think my luck is on the coast.

"Mentally, it is challenging as a player when you are not playing. Before I came here, I spoke to the coach and was positive that I was going to play. There was just one thing I needed, and that was game time.

"I also suffered a lot with injuries at Sundowns. In my first season, I was out for nine months. I suffered another injury in my second season. It was frustrating because when I came back, I needed game time."

As they prepare to face Amakhosi, the defender added: "We just want to make sure that we bring our A-game. We have the potential."
