Man City striker Erling Haaland rubbishes Lionel Messi and Ronaldo comparisons

The 25-year-old Norwegian, facing his former club Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday's Champions League clash, said:

"No, not at all. Far off. No-one can get close to them two, so no."

Haaland has scored 26 goals in 16 appearances this season and 98 Premier League goals in 107 games, already holding the single-season scoring record with 36 goals in his debut campaign. Despite his achievements, he insists he focuses on team success rather than personal records.

"I don't really know any records, but I know Alan Shearer's Premier League record. That's the last thing I think of. I try to help the team win football games. That's my job and main focus," he said.

Haaland also boasts 53 goals in 51 Champions League matches, making him the fastest to 50, and helped City complete the Treble in his first season. Guardiola, who has named him part of City's leadership group, praised his humility:

"Normally strikers just think about goals, but he always has an eye on what is best for the team."

This week, Guardiola moved training to Wednesday morning to maximize recovery ahead of Dortmund, while their opponents had extra preparation time.

Haaland is also determined to lead Norway to their first World Cup since 1998, staying grounded despite his success:

"I am still that kid from Bryne, but with more experience. I shouldn't think I am something because I am scoring goals. I am just Erling, and this will never change."

Focused on development, Haaland warns opponents he is "definitely" improving as a striker. With his current form, it seems only a matter of time before he begins closing the gap on the all-time greats - though team success remains his priority.
