'Important not to dwell on defeat', says Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker ahead of Galaxy test

After making it through the round of 16 with a penalty shootout victory over Kaizer Chiefs, Barker's inconsistent side then suffered a 4-0 rout at the hands of Gallants in their quarter-final clash on Wednesday.

Barker's side sre campaigning on a number of fronts this season and their league form has seemingly suffered a result and they currently sit in 13 place on the Betway Premiership standings with just two wins from their opening 10 league games.

They did, however, make to the MTN8 final where there ultimately lost 3-0 to an in-form Orlando Pirates, and they have progressed to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

But with this recent defeat, Barker has told his team to move on quickly, as they prepare to face TS Galaxy in the league on Sunday.

"The important part is to get over this game as quickly as possible, learn from it and take the positives out of the previous two matches," Barker said on IOL. "There were some positives, while in some areas we weren't good enough.

"We are going to get challenges. We're going to get roadblocks like we did against Gallants. We are going to lose football games; we don't have a divine right to win every match we play."

Barker added that his side's congested schedule is not the reason for their recent heavy defeat.

“I don't think fixture congestion has got anything to do with it. There is a bit of travel, which has been a lot over the last couple of weeks,” he said.

"It's vital that we manage it and we embrace it (heavy workload). We don't see it as a difficulty, but as a team performing well on the continent and in cup competitions."
