Marc Brys defiant amid FECAFOOT feud as Cameroon target World Cup return

The Belgian tactician remains focused on his team's preparations ahead of Thursday's crucial playoff first leg against DR Congo at Al Barid Stadium in Rabat.

Despite weeks of administrative friction - including a delayed squad announcement and communication breakdowns with FECAFOOT officials - Brys has projected calm authority, insisting that only football matters now.

"The group is mature and competent enough to handle the situation. It's not the first time for many of them, and I'm 100 percent sure we will be ready if the mentality and passion are right from the start," Brys told SuperSport.

Cameroon missed out on automatic qualification after finishing second in Group D, four points behind Equatorial Guinea, and now face DR Congo in a two-legged playoff for a World Cup spot. The Leopards also fell just short in Group B, finishing behind African champions Senegal.

While off-field politics have threatened to overshadow the build-up, Brys' positive outlook has steadied the ship. His refusal to engage in public spats with FECAFOOT has earned him admiration from players and fans alike.

"I am a positive person, so I don't deal with the negative - like, for example, FECAFOOT," he added pointedly.

As the Indomitable Lions take aim at another World Cup appearance, Brys' calm defiance may be exactly what Cameroon needs to navigate both their internal storms and the threat of a hungry DR Congo side.
