"It was a surprise to play Senegal", admits Kenya assistant Vasili Manousakis

Sadio Mane (17', 31' pen, 35') netted a first-half hat-trick, while Nathan Jackson (9', 15') added a brace, alongside further goals from El Hadji Malick Diouf (12'), Ibrahim Mbaye (48') and Cherif Ndiaye (80' pen).

The heavy defeat came on the back of a 1-0 international friendly defeat to Equatorial Guinea on Friday.

Reflecting on the loss, the assistant coach revealed that Kenya, who failed in their efforts to qualify for both the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup, were expecting two slightly less competitive ties against the likes of Comoros and Madagascar.

Before the game, Manousakis said on iDiski Times: "It was a nice surprise for us.

"We don't know how, or who agreed to the fixture, but we were discussing playing Comoros and Madagascar.

"I think things changed with the tournament guys hosting the tournament that side and then we got Equatorial Guinea a little bit later and then Senegal was added.

"So, I think two fixtures were key for us, we wanted to play two games in this window to give everybody a chance.

“We don't know quite how it's happened, but it has happened.”
